If you would like to commission a portrait please email me at scottmitchellportraits@outlook.com or fill out the form at the bottom of this page, and I'll be happy to discuss the process in detail.

The prices below are for one subject and a basic background, additional subjects or a complex background (such as detailed grass, or a scene) may carry an additional charge. Quotes for that can be given once I've seen the image(s) in question.

If you have a lower budget then please let me know! If the prices below are out of your budget but you are still interested then I'm happy to discuss what I still may be able to do for you in terms of less detailed projects.

If you require a larger painting then please let me know, as I price them on a case by case basis. I also offer custom sized paintings should the above sizes not match the dimensions you wish.

If you decide to commission me I ask for a 5% deposit to be put into my waiting list. Further payments are in two parts, the first once you've seen the first layer roughly marked out in paint, and then the final part once you've seen a high quality photo of the finished painting.

What I Need From You

All I need from you is the image that you want painted, the higher the quality the better! For the best paintings I like to recommend the photo be taken with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, but with the quality of modern phone cameras it is not compulsory and I can draw detail from other reference images if needed. If you only have lower quality images of a pet who has passed please still contact me as there are often ways which that can be worked around to still provide a high quality painting.

Should you decide to commission me I will talk through with you what kind of photos translate best into paintings, and, should you have a few favourites, I will help you choose the best one for the job. Alternatively, I am happy to detail ways to take a new photo specifically for a painting.

Delivery

While I am based in the UK I routinely take commissions from across the world. My paintings are packaged securely and safely with glassine paper to protect the paint surface, wrapped in bubble wrap, and packaged in multiple layers of card. Shipping rates are fairly inexpensive with the majority of my canvas sizes shipping for around £70 including insurance. Unless otherwise requested, this will be done through DHL and typically takes around between a couple of days and a week to arrive, depending on the location.

Framing and Care

It is not compulsory to frame my paintings, but it is an excellent way to bring attention to the painting and can compliment the work. Take this into consideration when choosing a size canvas as frames add a few inches to all dimensions.

I do not ship my paintings framed as they would be more expensive and more likely to get damaged. Should you wish a frame, my recommendation is to take the painting to a local framer who can advise the best type of frame to suit it.

To preserve the paintings I apply a coat of varnish. This means, should you need to dust the paintings, this can be done with a soft duster or very delicately with a damp cloth without damaging the painting. For longest life, keep paintings out of strong direct sunlight.
